We love Mayo Wynne Baxter

As I’m sure I may have already mentioned, putting on a major art exhibition from scratch costs a small fortune. In fact, it is more of a medium size fortune. So to help with this we went out to the Sussex business community and knocked on a few doors to see if we could get any sponsors.

All those that said “yes, we would love to help” are listed on our sponsors page and we urge you to take a look at them and use their services where you can. All of our sponsorships were snapped up pretty quickly apart from the biggy - headline sponsor. That was until last week when the region’s largest law firm swept in and offered to take the prime sponsorship.

Mayo Wynne Baxter may already be a law firm you have heard of, even if you haven’t yet used their services. They have been around for over 150 years having started in Lewes in the 1860s by Mr Wynne Baxter who was pretty famous in his day. Not only did he start the law firm but he was also the first ever Mayor of Lewes. He went on to be a coroner and presided over thousands of inquests including that of The Elephant Man and some of Jack the Ripper’s victims.

Fast forward to today and MWB are one of the largest law firms in the South East with strong links to Sussex. They have seven offices in the county where they employ nearly 200 people. For the past decade they have been a huge supporter of the Sussex community and it is likely you will have seen their lime green branding somewhere (Amex Stadium, Sussex County Cricket ground, Crawley Town FC, or Plumpton Racecourse perhaps).

Our new headline sponsors

They are really big on supporting the communities that they serve and have raised hundreds of thousands over the years for local charities. Whilst they are well known for their support for Sussex sports, they are equally supportive of Sussex arts and have been a main sponsor of Artwave for some years. Knowing their love of Sussex and the arts it was a no-brainer for us to invite them to support The Sussex in its first year.

We are exceptionally grateful to Mayo Wynne Baxter and, of course, all our sponsors and partners not only for the injection of cash but also for their support for what we are trying to achieve with The Sussex Contemporary. We genuinely want to showcase the very best of Sussex arts and show the rest of the world what a hub of artistic creativity we have here. It makes perfect sense for us to be aligned with the very best law firm.

To find out more about what Mayo Wynne Baxter do and how they might be able to help you or your business, take a look at their website www.mayowynnebaxter.co.uk. They also have a really interesting service called LawEasier which is a bit like an online law firm that uses AI to assist you in creating your own bespoke legal documents like a Will. We’ve had a go and can say that it is very easy to use and very affordable. It’s free to try so why not give it a go, and they also have a ‘wikipedia’ of the law that is in plain-English a really useful reference tool. Check out LawEasier
