Efflorescence.

We return to the BN9 Studio in Newhaven in February 2026 with Efflorescence, a democratic exhibition of works that celebrate the visual aspect of flowers and plants as they emerge and display their beauty.

    Free parking opposite the railway club.

FAQs

WHO CAN ENTER?

Efflorescence is open to Sussex-Linked artists who:

·     were born in Sussex (UK), or

· do, or have lived/worked in Sussex (UK),

· are/were educated in Sussex (UK).

Efflorescence is open to all artists at any stage of their career, whether professional or amateur.

DO YOU CHARGE COMMISSION?

Yes, Sussex Contemporary Ltd handles all sales onsite at the exhibition.

  • The commission will be levied at 30% for all artworks sold by Sussex Contemporary Ltd.

  • Artists will be responsible for collecting their unsold work at the end of the exhibition. Sussex Contemporary arranges delivery and/or collection directly with the buyer.

  •  Artists will be paid for their sold artwork within seven days of the exhibition's end by bank transfer.

How many works can I enter?

We have expanded upon last year’s project to allow a maximum of 2 works for each creative,

The entries can be from a mix of 2d & 3d places but no more than a total of two.

WHAT TYPES OF WORK CAN I ENTER?

We welcome works from artists, makers, and craftspeople at any stage of learning, career, or stage.

Works can be created in any medium, including but not limited to painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, jewellery, photography, ceramics, textiles, sculptural, mixed media, and illustration.

Artwork must be original work, created by you, the artist.

The maximum weight limit for work to be hung is 20 kg.

3D and sculptural works have a maximum weight limit of 100 kg.

Works can be framed or unframed, but must be ready to be hung or presented to a gallery standard.

All work must be available for hanging/installation by February 2, 2026, and for sale until February 28, 2026.

  • No substitutions of work will be allowed.

  • No sold works are allowed.

  • All works entered must be for sale.

  • The art must remain in the venue for the duration of the exhibition and not be available for sale elsewhere.

WHAT IS A DEMOCRATIC EXHIBITION?

Your purchase of a place guarantees your work will be included in the exhibition.

No selection panel, no judges, no prizes.

An opportunity to secure your inclusion in a beautifully curated exhibition by our creative director, Jo Myles.

We refer to it as democratic, as there is no formal selection process, and you get to choose your involvement.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

We have a range of prices for both 3D & 2D works based on size:

  • £10 for works up to and no bigger than A6 (105mm x 148.5mm)

  • £20 for works up to and no bigger than A5 (148.5mm x 210mm)

  • £30 for works up to and no bigger than A4 (210mm x 297mm)

  • £50 for works up to and no bigger than A3 (297mm x 420mm)

  • £70 for works up to and no bigger than A2 (420mm x 594mm)

  • £90 for works up to and no bigger than A1 (594mm x 841mm)

  • £150 for works up to and no bigger than A0 (841mm x 1189mm)
