My basketry is both functional and sculptural. Integrity of material is important and mine is grown organically in my garden, having no detrimental (just good) impact on the planet.
I make sculptural and functional basketry from the willow, hazel and other plants that I grow in my cottage garden, at the foot of the South Downs in West Sussex. Coppiced willow has a natural bow shape it, created as the stems bend to the sun. When making the random weave sculptures, such as the one here, I enjoy following these curves and discovering what shapes I'll be led to.
The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
