Catalogue number: 42
Artist: Wendy Dolan
Title: Fruit and Blooms
Medium: Original stitched textile. Cotton, silk and lace fabrics, layered, painted with freehand stitching.
Dimensions: 71 x 41 x 3.5
William Morris’s designs at Standen have inspired my artwork for many years. His appreciation of natural forms, combined with his use of intricate patterns and rich, harmonious colour palettes, has encouraged me to explore the relationship between structure and organic movement in my own work.
Drawing inspiration from Morris’s designs Tulips, Wild Tulip, and Fruit and Pomegranates, I have combined motifs from these works to create Fruit and Blooms. Surface texture is developed through the layering of cotton, silk, and lace fabrics, creating an engaging background that is then enhanced with fabric paint and freehand stitching.
The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
