Catalogue number: 70
Artist: Lara Evans
Title: Natures Honesty 1
Medium: 100% Lambswool knitted cushion using hand made punchcard to create the pattern
Dimensions: 25cm x 45cm x 13cm
Beautiful countryside surrounding Standen, structure and interior of the house, colour palette which is sympathetic to the interiors of the house.
With my background in knitted Textiles I have long admired William Morris one of the founders of the Arts and Craft Movements work along with its ethos of producing handmade items using natural sustainable materials.
My love of nature and the national trust inspired me to design and make these cushions for the inspired by Standen open Call.
Design motivation came from Standen House itself and the gardens, the repetitive placement of the leaf and tulip motifs come from the front elevation of the house and its architectural features.
I chose a very sympathetic colour pallette of muted neutrals, leafy greens and a pop of teracotta embroidery as a nod to the traditional brick of the building enabling the feeling of bringing the outside in.
The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
