Bringing craft and craftmanship back into our homes and cherishing the objects we live with again. My work aims to celebrate and tell the story of the handmade as a joyful antidote to fast consumption.

For centuries we read the weather through the natural world.

The night sky, migrating birds, unfurling leaves and the changing seasons all carried small clues about what was to come.

These observations became sayings known as weather lore. Some have been proven by science. Others remain folklore.

But all of them share something important, they encourage curiosity and invite us to look more closely at the world around us and what it might be telling us.

Our modern world is fast, always pushing towards constant progress and convenience. This collection of printed textiles is a pause, a call to slow down and reconnect with nature and it’s rhythms.

By tuning into small changes, like a leaf opening earlier or subtle changes in shifting seasons we begin to notice a changing climate.

By starting with one small observation, we begin to rebuild our relationship with nature and what it may be telling us.

Hand carved and printed in Yorkshire, this ‘Oak Before Ash’ textile celebrates traditional weather lore and encourages curiosity, inviting us to look more closely at the world around us and what it might be telling us.

The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
