Title: Blue Trellis Table Runner/Wall Panel
Medium: Table Runner made with Indian hand block printed cotton fabric, felt, Linen base, cotton.
Dimensions: 154cm high, 56cm width, .05cm depth
I am inspired by how much the outside view from the windows and aspect of the gardens is reflected in the Morris decor inside the house. Using this handmade block print fabric made me think of house.
Every room at Standen House is adorned with plants and flowers on the walls and the soft furnishings. The views from all windows in the house look out onto the garden and the beautiful Sussex views. Inspired by the Morris wallpapers, and fabrics inside the house, I made this trellis table runner/Wall Panel. The cotton fabric is block printed in India using natural pigment dyes, I have backed it in linen, and I have added hand cut applique flowers sewn over the felt panels. I think the fabric compliments the blues in the tiles and pottery around the house and the wonderful green paneling of the dining room.
The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
