Brick kilns
Photography
Dimensions: 52 x 41 x2
Artist’s statement
These ruined brick kilns at Rougham produced the bricks for Rougham Hall, ancestral home of Marianne North. Her ancestor Fountain North later destroyed the Hall with gunpowder, a decision regarded by the North family as practical given the enormous cost of maintaining it. Now the earth is slowly swallowing the kilns. Once used to create shelter, they too are disappearing into the landscape, soon to exist only in memory.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
