Artist’s statement
This self-portrait captures me in my bed: a hidden refuge from a life and environment no longer serving me. Here I can be vulnerable and lose composure; my tired expression reflects the monotony of masking. My squashed face challenges portrait conventions of composure, capturing a state beyond self-awareness where posture is shaped by rest over performance. Made at the precipice of change after a decade in the Netherlands, it foreshadows my return to the UK and a renewed sense of belonging.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
