Susan Calverley Parker
Shelter
Oil on canvas
Dimensions: 33cm x 43cm x 5.5cm
Artist’s statement
This process led painting was inspired by the sheepfolds in the Yorkshire dales and by the walls around groups of trees in the landscape to express safety and shelter for animals, insects, nature or man.
My work conveys mysterious and awesome feelings about the temporary or permanent worlds of air, water and vegetation which oscillate with apparent permanence and solidity. Natures invisible enigmas and overwhelming visions of beauty are renewed by current theories of a 'Technological Sublime'.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
