Mark Currah
Twentieth of August 2026
Acrylic on canvas over panel
Dimensions: 76 x 61 x 5cm
Artist’s statement
I paint onto a transparent plastic sheet and then transfer resultant imagery onto the canvas. Screens of paint are cut and reconfigured, condensed and overlaid. The imagery is reversed and re-orientated. The painting articulates a process of concealing, shrouding and obscuring, a kind of sheltering.
The act of painting is a form of sheltering. Being immersed in a creative act stimulates mental well-being and promotes resilience. The painting is evidence of a period of emotional sheltering.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
