Artist’s statement
This Welsh beach is a beautiful place to stroll. The cliffs around the cove form protective arms that calm the wind to a cool breeze on hot, sunny days. Children play with a kind of happy, relentless commitment. Some can head off to their comfortable holiday apartment on the hill.
But for families seeking asylum, the beach can be a dangerous landing place of uncertainty and fear. A place to negotiate to reach temporary shelter. With no guarantees of welcome or security, or a chance to play.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
