Simon Fell
Triumph of the bankrupt
Glazed ceramic earthenware
Dimensions: 17h, 19l, 8w
Artist’s statement
This artwork is a maquette for a larger piece that might get shot at at some point during it’s construction. In this case the shots have been simulated with a stick. This structure provides a minimum of usable shelter but embodies a series of redundant ideas about glory and greatness being achieved through going to war. Those notions are frequently promoted by those that are bankrupt of any real hope or a more constructive sense of purpose. This work holds or shelters my outrage about this.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
