87. Ian Fenton – The Sycamore Tree that Once Stood Outside 25 Marley Lawn, Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland

£3,500.00

Ian Fenton

The Sycamore Tree that Once Stood Outside 25 Marley Lawn, Rathfarnham, Dublin, Ireland

Charcoal & collage (gouache painted paper)

Dimensions: 220 x 160

Artist’s statement

A portrait of the sycamore that once stood outside my childhood home in Dublin. The house remains, the tree doesn't - so this is really a portrait of a memory. As children nature is a sanctuary in its truest sense: somewhere to hide, cry, dream, be unseen. That kind of refuge has nothing to do with roofs and walls. Built from 3,500 hand cut, painted paper pieces and charcoal, flat like a Japanese byōbu screen it is celebration and a quiet eulogy for the sacred shelter nature and memory provides.

All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.

Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.

For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
