Artist’s statement
Rootbound considers the paradox of shelter as both sanctuary and constraint. The pot offers the roots protection, stability and a contained space in which to grow, yet its boundaries simultaneously restrict their natural expansion. Inspired by the intricate root systems of trees observed on my walks, I explore the tension between belonging and freedom, asking whether the structures that sustain and protect us can also limit our capacity to move beyond them.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
