Artist’s statement
This work explores shelter through its absence. I was thinking about the unknown faced by people crossing the she in search of safety, leaving behind one place without knowing what, if anything, is waiting on the other side. The water becomes both passages and threat, something that must be crossed to reach the possibility of shelter, while offering none itself. The work sits within that uncertain space between leaving and arriving, vulnerability and safety, displacement and belonging.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
