Artist’s statement
Shelter 2 reimagines the Jurassic Coast cliffs as an embroidered wedding sari - jagged edge cutting into flat green sky, a house set into the eroding cliffs. Marriage is supposed to be shelter: a promised safety. It often isn't. The wedding sari, worn at the moment that promise is made, becomes the painting's structure; the house it shelters stands exposed on ground already giving way. The painting holds both meanings of shelter at once - the safety promised, and the safety withheld.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
