Artist’s statement
This work was inspired by Horace Walpole’s “Castle of Otranto” - (regarded as the first Gothic novel). This painting references Princess Isabella’s flight into the gloom of the castle dungeons in an attempt to escape the crazed Manfred.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
