Isobel Heath
Courgette
Oil on Canvas
Dimensions: H:47cm L:70cm W:3.5cm
Artist’s statement
'Courgette' depicts my childhood cat, Sponge, sheltering beneath a courgette leaf. Growing up, I spent much of my time with Sponge as a form of escapism; I often felt closer to him than to my human counterparts. The work explores the symmetry between Sponge being physically sheltered and dressed up like a doll, and my own retreat from the wider world. In many ways, Sponge was the centre of my universe.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
