Roger Hopgood
Contested Object XVI (Olive Morris)
Digital collage
Dimensions: 68cm x 56cm x 5cm
Artist’s statement
This piece connects with the theme of ‘shelter’ because of Olive Morris’ work in finding homes for people in need during the 1980s. But the notion of ‘shelter’ can also be ascribed to individuals and organisations who, during difficult times (then and now), dedicate themselves to supporting the vulnerable. To some extent, we can also think of the comfort and shelter provided by knowledge of lives and events in the past where battles were won in the pursuit of greater inclusion and equality.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
