Artist’s statement
These women find shelter in each other, finding comradeship, understanding and fun in a moment shared in the sun. My mum and her friends would say that they were popping out for some bits when they went shopping and it seemed normal to me. I make a point of saying this now and enjoying the memory. We take shelter in our memories and who we are in them. Shelter feels like belonging and respite.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
