Artist’s statement
This work explores shelter as a living relationship rather than a built structure. A sleeping child is protected within the embrace of a fish, surrounded by an underwater sanctuary of roots and vegetation. The fish becomes both guardian and habitat, creating a space where vulnerability is met with care. By presenting human and non-human life as interconnected, the piece reflects on belonging, ecological interdependence, and the protective power of shared refuge.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
