Artist’s statement
Deep in Domfront Woods, Basse Normandie is a house built of Domfront Stone. It was owned by Marc Le Chippey. He hid 17 German prisoners there during the First World War. He provided food and accommodation for them and they worked for him at his Quarry nearby. They were never ill treated by him. Most Germans were shot on sight. It was a place of safety for them. My second photograph is my personal response to being in the house.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
