At Ease
Oil on canvas board
Dimensions: 48x48x3.5 (framed), 40x40 (unframed)
Artist’s statement
I’ve been passing this field on the M25 for years. The cows invariably gather beneath a large oak at the top of the slope taking shelter from rain or summer heat.
They rest, as a comfortable group, in the security of their surroundings, while we race past preoccupied by whatever the news has thrown up that week. As the poet Wendell Berry sums it up so beautifully: ‘…the peace of wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.’ We could learn so much from them.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
