Artist’s statement
I started with a photo of the driftwood 'storytellers chair' on the dunes in North Wales with its silvery-grey windworn texture. It wouldn't be much of a shelter for a person, but it could offer some to a small animal; I moved it in my imagination to an autumn wood.
I added a half-sleeping fox - a roof for physical shelter is not so necessary for him, but in the woodland camouflage adds another level of security; even so, his shelter is always fragile, and he keeps one eye open.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
