Mary norowzian
the ground beneath my feet
bronze, soapstone
Dimensions: 27 x 36 x 12
Artist’s statement
This sculpture explores “shelter” through our relationship with the earth. The rock becomes a form of shelter through presence rather than physical protection. A meditative figure, perched on a high ledge, appears to have found a place of stillness, a place to pause, contemplate and feel held by something larger than oneself. In this paradox, the sculpture asks whether shelter might sometimes mean finding a moment of peace within uncertainty, rather than escaping uncertainty altogether.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
