Artist’s statement

The House is one of the first images we draw, placing ourselves in relation to what contains and shelters us.
I’m inspired by the idea that as homes, sheds and shelters are occupied over time, they absorb and reflect something of the character of the people living in them. Just as a child’s drawing of a house seems to have a face, the buildings in my ‘housework’ paintings have a distinct body language. Does the red window offer an ambiguous welcome? Or are we shut out, no door handle in sight?

All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.

Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.

For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
