180. Clare Parfree-Mitchell – The mint pot

£500.00

Clare Parfree-Mitchell

The mint pot

Pencil on Fabriano artistico paper

Dimensions: 41(H)x59(L)x3.5cm(D)

Artist’s statement

In this interior, the cat and mint plant might represent home, or be more connected to the wilder outside. The lace table cloth could link to ‘women’s work’, keeping women indoors and occupied, but the birds on the tablecloth suggest freedom, despite the surrounding net-like structure. So home could mean safety, or being stuck or trapped. The woman seems interested in, rather than scared of, the glowing dog, so perhaps the landscape and its creatures offer a different form of shelter.

All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.

Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.

For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
