Artist’s statement
As a chronically ill person, ‘shelter’ is wherever I can rest, recover and sleep.
‘Bed rest’ features a large rock placed on the bed I slept in during a 6 week Heima artist residency in Seyðisfjörður, Iceland in Winter 25. I lived and created communally alongside 5 other artists in a shared house, sheltering from the winter in a remote town.
I chose to show work in the bedroom I stayed in as well as a gallery, the rock carried to the bed by other residents: being disabled means asking for help.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
