231. Marion Taylor-Russell – Dry Valley (Devil’s Dyke, Sussex)

£295.00

Marion Taylor-Russell

Dry Valley (Devil’s Dyke, Sussex)

Oil paint

Dimensions: 30 x 36 x 2

Artist’s statement

This plein air painting was begun on the hillside of the glacial valley known as ‘Devil’s Dyke. In the overall composition, grouped vegetation and colour I hoped to capture the iconic, deep wide curve of the ‘dry valley’ that has sheltered and sustained plant and animal life for millennia. Importantly though, I also wanted to convey the actuality of the ‘dryness’ this Summer: the lack of shelter provided using the blown tree, the dry white of eroded paths, the uniformity of bleached yellows.

All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.

Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.

For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
