Charlie Todman
Seeking shelter in the void
Woollen embroidery on canvas
Dimensions: 51 x 66 x 4
Artist’s statement
Shelter is a fundamental human need. This work reflects on those who leave behind the familiar in search of safety, security and the possibility of a better life. Amid headlines, statistics and divided opinions, it is easy to lose sight of the individual. Each person carries a story, a history and a hope for the future. This piece asks us to look beyond labels and remember the humanity that connects us: our shared need for shelter, kindness and belonging.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
