Safe Haven
Hahnemühle Photo rag 106
Dimensions: 55cm x 77cm x 3.2cm
Artist’s statement
Safe Haven is from a series documenting the 90s Somerset road protest, Save our Solsbury Hill.
Protesters took nonviolent action to protect the habitat.
After building barricades or chaining themselves to diggers, they took refuge in the Healing Field, to plan activities before climbing to their treetop camps to shelter for the night.
Contemporary protests are mounted for and against people seeking refuge.
The boy with the gosling conveys gentle compassion in the shelter of the Healing Field.
All purchased artworks must remain in the exhibition until 12pm on 29 November 2026.
Artworks can be collected between 12pm and 6pm on 29 November 2026, or between 10am and 4pm on 30 November 2026.
For every £1 spent with SUSSEX contemporary, 70p goes directly to the artist.
