£1,075.00

Catalogue number: 28

Artist: Clive Bullivant

Title: Energy in Balance

Medium: Fine Pewter

Dimensions: 25X13X16 (30 with candle)

This balanced piece is created using traditional techniques without use of mechanical aids. It is inspired by imagery from Japanese Woodblock prints a collection of which I saw at Standen.

Inspired by Sustainability and imagery in Japanese prints of which Standen has a displayed collection, the piece is in fine pewter. It is entirely made by hand in the Arts and Crafts tradition and is designed to be produced in a relatively simple workshop using techniques ranging from sand casting to fabrication, chasing and hand finishing. The balance arm is adjustable to allow different weights of candle to be used and the cradle holder articulates to keep the candle upright. Uniquely as the candle loses mass the arm raises to keep the flame at a constant height. The imagery evokes wave pattern linking to the idea of the renewable energy source and is a one-off sculptural form.

The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
