33. Honeysuckle by Lydia Asscher

£2,500.00

Catalogue number: 33

Artist: Lydia Asscher

Title: Honeysuckle

Medium: Hand embossed copper and brass light sculpture

Dimensions: 120cm, 65cm, 65cm

This functional yet beautiful handmade honeysuckle light responds to the honeysuckle print designed by William Morris, melding Standen's interiors with its gardens, so treasured by Mrs Beale.

This handmade hanging light is inspired by William Morris' famous Honeysuckle print. Each leaf and budding floral trumpet is hand cut and embossed, before being twisted into delicate wire stems.

The design and material combined, emanates the way sunlight filters through greening woodland - where wild honeysuckle clings amidst the canopy. Its scent drifts through the air and as if by hypnosis, draws moths to drink nectar at dusk.

This light was made to draw the essence of the outside world in; changing how we think about our interior spaces and the barriers placed between ourselves and nature.

It offers a change of tack when thinking about lighting - bright enough to be practical whilst soft enough to offer a sensory respite from the daily barrage of artificial blue light. This work knits beauty and utility together in true Arts and Crafts fashion.

The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
