Catalogue number: 56

Artist: Julie Rignell

Title: Punctured

Medium: Rush woven chair with rose thorns and paper cord

Dimensions: H83 W45 D35

Twist on a rush seated chair using rose bark and a rose thorn button. A fun piece which subverts the cosy image associated with the NT and in particular how Standen use pine cones to protect furniture.

Traditional rush seated chairs are found in many National Trust properties, including Standen. This interpretation offers a contemporary twist on a heritage craft. The chair seat was woven by the artist and embellished with bound stripped rose bark and a coiled rose thorn button. A playful piece which subverts the cosy image associated with the NT and how Standen use pine cones to signal to visitors that seats are not to be sat upon.
Any visitor brave enough to perch on this chair would be well and truly punctured!

The exhibition runs until 30 September. Once a purchase has been completed, buyers may choose either to collect their artwork free of charge from Standen House on 2 October, or to have the work professionally packed, insured and couriered by Sussex Contemporary. Delivery charges vary according to the size, weight and value of each artwork and are detailed on the individual product page before purchase.
